Clean Slate

by in Life Enrichment

Happy New Year, friendly reader!

So, today’s the day. New day, new year, new outlook, new blog entry. Okay, this sounds familiar. Did I blog about the same thing last year? Hang on while I check my files. Whoooa, Nellie—they’re a big fat mess. Bingo! Got my first resolution:

1. Get on that whole filing system.
Instead of having a couple overflowing folders crammed in the front of the filing cabinet drawer, do a little filing every day. I’ll set aside 15 minutes each morning for file maintenance. Don’t allow self to “bargain” about maybe just doing an hour’s worth on Saturday instead. Stick to guns. That Saturday deal never pans out.

I  feel better already. Let’s see. I’d like to read a lot of books this year. Been all about the audiobooks lately. I’ve been gathering titles on a list that I put… um… oh, crap. It’s in the scary pile.

2. Scary Pile. Must. Die.
Once and for all (Hee! Sounds convincing, doesn’t it?!) get a handle on this scary pile problem. Perhaps a fun trip through an office supply store would uncover a great organization tool or two. Another route might be to send Oprah and her organizer guy some photos of my piles to elicit their assistance. Hey—it’s worth a try. Squeaky wheel gets the grease, as mom always says.

Piece of exercise equipment with clothes on it? Check. That’s the next one:

3. Locate and use rowing machine.
Sit down on rowing machine to do more than sort laundry in adjacent closet hamper. C’mon. There’s even a TV to watch while rowing. Maybe put that in the routine after the daily filing. [snicker] Seriously. For now, just 10 mins of rowing will suffice. That’s totally doable. I can always put the laundry baskets back on there when I’m done.

Yes, they’re all clean!
Well, I’m feeling pretty good about things now. The only other thing I really want to do for myself this year is spend a few minutes each morning with Jon Kabat-Zinn to set a mellow, mindful tone for the day. A little Zen with the Zinn.
Maybe I need a chart that I can check off each day. Or a sticker chart like I do for my kids with a prize upon completion! Get that sense of accomplishment. Why not? Just gotta lay my hands on those stickers. Scary pile, here I come.

Zen with the Zinn! Brilliant! I'm adding that to my list for the new year too. Of course, I need to go and find the book. It was in a scary pile around here not too long ago!

    Happy New Year!

Organization is also on my list of things to accomplish this year! Don't you just hate when you lose control of it? I sure do. Heh.

Oh my gosh! If I had a rowing machine…it would look JUST like that! And, um…filing piles? Yeah, I suffer too! It's a curse, really!

Is there a service available that geotags blog posts while on the go and is able to post to map with others?
